This issue is dedicated to theoretical
physicist Prof. Leonas Valkūnas on his 70th birthday.
Leonas Valkūnas is the scientist who has made a significant
contribution to the development of molecular exciton theory. His
knowledge of physics was gained in studies guided by the famous
physicists – Solomon Pekar, Alexander Davydov, Emmanuel Rashba
and Volodymyr Sugakov. At the very start of his career, Leonas
was in two minds about whether to play the clarinet – his early
passion – or to pursue physics. We are grateful to his
outstanding teachers, who diverted Leonas into physics for the
benefit of scientific community spread over many universities in
all continents he visited and worked. Fortunately, now we can
see his scientific research and career path with the sign
‘Photosynthetic excitions’ that moves new generations of
scientists in the direction of quantum biology.
Now it is time for his colleagues and students to give him
credit by this collection of papers inspired by collaboration
and communication with him.
